about us

Welcome to Beacon Institute of Surveying Engineering and Mapping (BiSEM), home of professional Land Surveying academic and practical training Courses. Our courses are designed for new entrants into the Geomatics industry, or those who have minimal knowledge in land surveying but want to sharpen their knowledge in land surveying.

BEACON INSTITUTE OF SURVEYING ENGINEERING AND MAPPING (BiSEM), is a Land and Engineering Survey Institution meant to expose students and trainees to the rudiments of Land Surveying and Mapping. It is located at No. 2 NII KODIA STREET West Adenta.

The application of Geospatial Technologies is a rapidly growing approach to hands-on problem-solving approach with complete entrepreneurial development of the individual. The vision of our training is to provide support for the individual to develop employable and entrepreneurial skills and expertise within the shortest possible time. Our focused training would be on Geospatial technologies including field surveying and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Database designing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Satellite remote sensing, and drone technologies.

WHY CHOOSE BEACON INSTITUTE OF SURVEYING ENGINEERING AND MAPPING

There are currently a few institutions that train in the field of some aspects of geospatial technologies notable, the Geomatics Engineering Departments of KNUST and UMAT. These provide academic research type of training for managerial personnel but not the focused trades-hands-on training required at the field and middle levels. That leaves only the Ghana Survey School which originally was set up to train technical officers for the Survey Division. By their initial mandate, they regulated and limited intakes once every three years, until recently when they opened up for expanded numbers that may want to work outside the Department after training. This led to a situation where this school is now highly over-subscribed annually. There is therefore a clear demand and need for other avenues for training the high levels of SHS graduates that would branch into acquiring skills instead of pursuing academic research degrees. Again, our students who pass their courses successfully will have the opportunity of doing an attachment with members of the Ghana Licensed Surveyors Association, leading to employment in the surveying industry.

I enrolled in the BiSEM program in order to switch careers. I learned the basics of Land Surveying, and with that skill, I was able to obtain my present position as an external evaluator of land engineering, I also use many of the statistical skills I learned in other BiSEM courses, especially principal component analysis, taught in the multivariate entrepreneurial course. I cannot overstate the importance of the BiSEM program. It has been valuable to me. It is one of the best investments I have made.”

I am a foreman of a construction company. I was interested in land Surveying so I applied for the BiSEM HND program. I was so impressed by the level of support and structure the courses and instructors offered that I decided to pursue the Master’s degree. I am so thankful to be part of this program. I have learned so much and cannot imagine reading or conducting research without the skills I have learned through this program.
Many Thanks to BiSEM.
